Synthesis of Yoga

The Synthesis of Yoga is Sri Aurobindo’s principal work on yoga; it is a thorough examination of the traditional systems of yoga and, the complete and detailed explanation of his own system of Integral Yoga.

This reading completes Chapter III The Godward Emotions resuming on page 565.The first half of this chapter emphasized that love of the Divine, rather than fear of him must be the motive. Fear enters into the relations between master and servant, father and child, but only on the human level. The Divine does not punish anyone nor threaten nor force obedience. That the human soul is to be seized, uplifted towards the Divine, takes place only when the human soul comes freely forward and offers itself to the Divine. Thus freedom from the ego and the lower nature result … Love is the key of this relation.

” … turning the human emotion Godwards finds its full meaning … all its essential instincts raised, satisfied by oneness in the Ananda of the divine existence … where love is absolute, eternal and unalloyed.”
