Synthesis of Yoga

The Synthesis of Yoga is Sri Aurobindo’s explanation par excellence of his method of Integral Yoga as well as an examination of traditional systems of yoga.

This recording is the second half of Chapter 6 Perfection – the Lower Mentality, mid-page 658, found in Part 4 The Yoga of Self-Perfection.

It is thought that desire is the real motive power of human living; satisfaction of desire man’s only enjoyment … but the real motive power of life, the soul’s life, is Will. Desire is merely a deformation of will … the essential turn of the soul consists in a will to delight. Satisfaction of craving, desire, is only a vital and physical deformation of the will to delight. We must distinguish between pure will and desire, the inner will to delight and the outer craving of the mind. … We seek divine government of the will in life.

A purified heart is rid of anger, fear, hatred and all shrinking and repulsion; it has a universal love; it can receive the delight which God gives in the world. When all deformations are got rid of, the lower mentality is purified, ready for perfection.
