Synthesis of Yoga

The Synthesis of Yoga is the principal work of Sri Aurobindo most thoroughly explaining his method of Integral Yoga.

Here is Chapter 13 The Action of Equality, pages 721-728.

Equality is not merely indifference nor a withdrawal from experience; it is a superiority to the usual reactions of the mind and life. It is the spiritual way of responding to life, embracing, compelling it to a perfection of the action of the self and spirit.
Again we are reminded of the crucial importance of freedom from preferences, of entertaining desires.
In the midst of trouble, anxiety, grief and revolt, to perceive these arising from egoistic claim, must be discouraged by one’s will and his unity with God, the Master of his being. Complete surrender is the only way by which complete, absolute calm and peace can come to us, which once established, must continue the same no matter what occurs, in fact everything that ordinarily affects the mind. The first result of equality is charity, tolerance, of all beings and things, a knowing that God is in all.
