Synthesis of Yoga

The Synthesis of Yoga is Sri Aurobindo’s principal work on yoga, an examination of the traditional methods of yoga as well as a a most thorough explanation of his own method of Integral Yoga.

This reading, pages 752-756, is the first half of Chapter 16 The Divine Shakti, of Part 4 The Yoga of Self-Perfection. The next reading will be the second half of this chapter.

Science still labours (unsuccessfully) to explain all phenomena of life by laws of matter. Here the soul, spirit, has no place. Nature cannot be regarded as power of spirit. It is a discovery of the eternal truth of our being, a passing above the limited truth of the mental, vital and physical to the full truth of our spiritual nature to which we aspire. We can become aware of the presence of the universal Shakti … an illimitable ocean of Shakti will pour as much of itself as we can hold into our being … which we can use for any of activities of life, body or mind … the pranic Shakti can be directed upon ourselves, others, things, happenings, for whatever purposes the will dictates … its effectivity is immense … limited only by defect of the will brought to bear upon it …we must call in a higher guidance … .
