Synthesis of Yoga

The Synthesis of Yoga is Sri Aurobindo’s principal work of his method of Integral Yoga; in it he examines the Yoga in minute detail, completely, thoroughly, so that the reader may understand beyond a shadow of doubt.

This reading is of the second half of Chapter 18 Faith and Shakti of Part 4 The Yoga of Self-Perfection, pages 776-782.

The Yoga progresses from mental ignorance to increasing knowledge, light to greater light, to the greatest light of the supramental knowledge. As our experience increases we find that even our errors were necessary, leaving a suggestion of truth behind them. Self-doubt is paralysing, actually a false assent to impotence. Know that the intellect alone cannot be a sufficient guide toward spiritual truth; we have to reject mere intellectual skeptism. It is rather a constant faith, as an assent of the heart, that is indispensable … we must always be ready to abandon the past as well as desire and accept more light and truth. The faith of the heart will pass into knowledge; the spirit is omnipotent.
