Our physical body is too rigid and inert to follow the rhythm of universal perpetual progressive development. Our mind and our vital being follow it. This lack of balance finally ends in rupture, and the body dies. The time has come to work to change this.

Man needs the excitement of contrast in his life. What men call "life" are the dramas, the anxieties, the contrasts. Almost everything one does is far less important than the attitude one has. The right attitude will allow awareness of the value of things.
Savitri sees what mental and vital energies are like when the soul stays behind the veil of the outer nature and the mind and vital are left to act on their own. "All is there, even God's opposites ... Man's house of life holds not the Gods alone."
Man is obliged by a Power inherent within him to work toward self-evolution leading to self-mastery and self-knowledge but purification and passivity of the mind open to the Spirit; these are necessities.
