Listen to Dr Ajay Agarwal, Michael and Bailey talk about the presentation they are giving on December 18th. You are welcome to listen in at Cinema Paradiso at 4-5.30pm. It was the Auroville Integral Sustainability Institute that invited Dr. Ajay and eight Master of Planning students from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada to help develop performance measures for sustainable development in Auroville. The objective is to assess whether the present course of development in Auroville meets the community’s needs in both the short (next ten years) and the long term.

The student team conducted several in-depth interviews with local resource persons in Auroville. These included Suhasini, Min, Bindu, David, Ribhu, Sonali and others. The aim was to identify some of the critical areas of concern facing Auroville in the coming ten years, and issues identified included affordability of housing, accessibility in terms of persons with special mobility needs, etcetera. The team then developed sustainability performance guidelines that could be applied to both the existing and the future development of Auroville. The developed system was applied to the Town Hall Complex. At a public presentation the team will present its sustainable development system using the Town Hall Complex as an illustrative case study and everyone is cordially invited.
