Auroville Film Festival (#2)

In this episode of AVFF 2017, we engage in conversation with Tom Mo, who is a filmmaker and a teacher. A film enthusiast, he talks to us about how important the film festival is for Auroville. We also discuss the main categories for submission, Kino Cell, Kino Cabaret and about getting in touch with more funders for the festival to come alive.

In this episode (#1) Sasikanth, filmmaker, photographer and teacher visits the AV Radio studio to talk about how it all began, submission guidelines, the Educational Outreach Program and the importance of good cinema.

Round Table Discussion on Human Unity
Sasikant and Suresh was joined by Kavitha and Marco (Artistic Director) and the roundtable started by discussing the film Girl Rising. Kavitha said that one reason she liked the film was because they used local village and city girls and paired them with local women journalist to capture their authentic voice and stories. The film depicts a number of women from the South/under developed countries and tells their stories. However the movie also supplies UN and other development data that highlights how we could quickly transform the South (and North-rich countries) by placing policy, money and infrastructure to assist women/girls. This path to development is faster and pragmatic, unlike the mythical ‘trickle down effect’ (putting most of the resources into the rich who will supposedly create weath for all via their investment – a Reagan and Thatcher – mythology that is still pursued today)

AVFF and Magnetic Fields

Day two of the Auroville Film Festival 2015 was full of screenings and delicious food and people milled about enjoying the festive atmosphere. People even referred to it as having a ‘village fair vibe’ as everyone got together, talking and laughing and even dancing.

Magnetic Fields, consisting of Ellie and Philippe from Pondicherry, performed live in the evening at the Town Hall Plaza.

A moment with Philippe Borrel

Philippe Borrel is a French documentary movie director who is coming for the Auroville Film Festival to present his latest opus ”The invisible (r)evolutions”. He will also be one of the jury and will give two workshops during his stay, and took a few moments to talk to us about his work.
