Ultimate Frisbee Camp

Bridging the Gaps, the Ultimate Frisbee Camp; held for a week from the 24th to the 30th of December, 2014 at the Dehashakti Sports Ground was truly an unprecedented initiative supported by the NGO Pudiyador, and the week that followed saw a marvellous array of learning, fun, enthusiasm and endless vigour flooding Auroville, in the form of children flooding in from all over the country.
The Youth camp brought together adolescents from the age group of 13 to 18 associated with NGOs in different states of the country and young adults aged 19 to 23 who acted as their coaches and were student volunteers for the camp. The Camp aimed at using Ultimate Frisbee, a non-competitive yet highly athletic sport, as a means for teaching children various physical, emotional as well as mental skills. Besides the game of Ultimate Frisbee, the kids were guided on team spirit, cheers, sportsmanship, multicultural adaptivity and other such valuable life skills through various activities and workshops.
They were trained in art, dance and drama as well; as they engaged in their team logo creation, dance practices and talent night performances with their coaches. It was a holistic camp aimed at bringing out the best in these kids, through innovative techniques of schooling and learning.
The interview is a talk with one of the main organizers of the Camp, his journey, the motive and thought process behind the camp, his experiences and how they are striving to make a change. He thanks all Aurovillians for their unending support and hospitability and the wonderful atmosphere in the town which echoed soundly with the philosophies of Bridging the Gaps.
