The Skate Park

The Skate Park, is a youth hub, a forest island, and a safe environment to bring families, friends and children together.

Have you heard what is happening at the new Skate Park in Dehashakti?
First of all let me give you directions on how to get there:
If you are driving from the Youth Center towards Fertile, pass Minati and a few hundred meters on your right you will see the Dehashakti sign. Enter and take the very first sharp right. You will be in a skate park in the middle of the forest.

I spoke to Edgar, one of the founders of the Skate Park, and he described a bit of the history and the movement behind it.
Let’s give kudos to the Auroville youth that managed to procure funding to initiate this park; transport the metal ramp originally in Aurovelo to the Skate Park to centralize the activities and improve the layout , so now they have two ramps in the court. With surplus money they even added a staircase to the ramp and built a tree house.
Another cool aspect of this project is that the Skate Park is part of a plan of conservation of the green corridor, which includes the wild life in the area and the forest. The green corridor links to the city center by cycle and foot paths.
The Skate Park as it is now functions already as a youth hub, but also it attracts families – sometimes with very small children. With the addition of a playground and toilets, the park would be ideal.
So far there are quite a few new skaters attending classes twice weekly, and about 20 regular skaters; and there is a yearly event that includes a light- hearted competition, so look out for the announcement of their next event.

Schools Reopens, O – Blood

Water Group informs us that in an effort to conserve our dwindling water resources in the City Centre, has asked Auroville Water Service to stop filling tankers from the City Centre. Water should be sourced from more abundant areas in Auroville, however, drinking water absolutely takes priority. The next step in water conservation is to ask all construction sites to supply their water via tankers (again filled outside of the City Centre).

Absence of love and fellow-feeling is not necessary for nearness to the Divine; on the contrary , a sense of closeness and oneness with others is apart of the divine consciousness into which the sadhak enters by nearness to the Divine and the feeling of oneness with the Divine. …In this yoga the feeling of unity with others, love, universal joy and Ananda are an essential part of the liberation and perfection which are the aim of the sadhana.

“There is a domain far above the mind which we could call the world of Harmony and, if you can reach there, you will find the root of all harmony that has been manifested in whatever form upon earth. For instance, there is a certain line of music, consisting of a few supreme notes, that was behind the productions of two artists who came one after another – one a concerto of Bach, another a concerto of Beethoven. The two are not alike on paper and differ to the but in their essence they are the same. One and the same vibration of consciousness, one wave of significant harmony touched both these artists. Beethoven caught a larger part, but in him it was more mixed with the inventions and interpolations of his mind; Bach received less, but what he seized of it was purer. The vibration was that of victorious emergence of consciousness, consciousness tearing itself out of unconsciousness in a triumphant uprising and birth.

If mankind only caught a glimpse of what infinite enjoyments, what perfect forces, what luminous reaches of spontaneous knowledge, what wide calms of our being lie waiting for us in the tracts which our animal evolution has not yet conquered, they would leave all and never rest till they had gained these treasures. But the way is narrow, the doors are hard to force, and fear, distrust and scepticism are there, tentacles of Nature to forbid the turning away of our feet from less ordinary pastures.

Indian Steam at Adishakti

Remembering Veenapani Festival 2017 at Adishkati has started last night successfully with Prodigal Theatre, UK , and their performance Indian Steam. Although Prodigal Theater performs more parkour stunts the red thread of the show was a skeletal remain of a steam locomotive, around which different stories took place.

Before the play team of Adishkati officially opened the festival with drumming.

This month Adishakti will be remembering Veenapani Chavla with many performances and theater plays every weekend.
Tonight , Saturday 4th we can see Akshayambara by Playwright &Director:
Sharanya Ramprakash; and tomorrow , Sunday 5th a spectacular Jujubee , Directed by Rajiv Krishnan.

Pondicherry Equestrian Challenge

The Pondicherry Equestrian Challenge (PEC) 2016 has been organized for two weeks at the RED EARTH RIDING SCHOOL, Auroville. Many riders from Bangalore, Chennai, Cuddalore, Tirupur, Pondicherry and Auroville have participated in the wonderful event.

The local residents and guests and visitors of Auroville enjoyed the Jumping Challenge at this PEC 2016. Events like these make youth energized says a visitor.

Parents should make sure of making their children involve in various sports and extra curricular activities which helps their growth in an inclusive manner rather than forcing them to stick to books alone. Books provide knowledge and wisdom and activities like these promotes holistic development.

Cash prizes were given to the winners in three categories. CAT A: 135 Cms, CAT B: 120 Cms and CAT C: 110 Cms.

The interesting thing about these competitions was that students of grade 8 have taken part. Therefore, there were various levels of competitions depending on the height of their strengths.

Programs like these should be encouraged by governments and the civil societies to develop a spirit for Equestrian culture, says Sri, a resident of Auroville.

Postcard from Auroville

From crushing waves of shores of Indian ocean , crossing the noise polluted coastal road we climbed up to lush vegetation of Auroville. Here very diverse sound of nature are always present, mixed with sound of the rich cultural, sport and community life of international township of Auroville. Amzing sound of nature of birds, frogs, crickets, horses …. are intertwined with sounds of singing stones, space drum, bikes, chatter and laughter of people with Diwali firework, slowing down its pace at the “silence” of Matrimandir with cascading water of lotus pond under it. mp3
