Savitri Book 1, Canto 4, Part 2

Savitri, Book l, The Book of Beginnings,
Canto Four, The Secret Knowlege,
Part 2

Secret Knowledge is revealed about the aspirations and struggles of the Earth-Goddess as she toils through the aeons, across the sands of Time. Sri Aurobindo continues to tell us what there is in us which slows down our journey to the light. He tells us of the Immortals on their deathless heights, overseers of fate and chance and will, who see and hear what man cannot, and who guide the unheedful, moving world to meet the Bliss for which earth’s heart cries. This week, in the quotation from the Record of Yoga, Sri Aurobindo speaks about the answers he receives for his own spiritual progress when he seeks help using a method called “sortilege”.

Food for Thought, 15-12-15

On Tuesday, 15 of December, the Joy of Learning Team invite for presentations from Auroville farmers. After a general paper on Auroville farming, Jeff mentioned that what our farms seasonally can grow and what consumers like to eat doesn’t fit together. For example, they ask for tomatoes all over the year, so except during the season (January to March) Auroville has to import them. So, the town is quite far from self-sufficiency and many farms have still a lot capacity to grow.
In January 2016, there will be set up a web portal with local and seasonal recipes: http://eatingwiththeseasons.org

How expensive are Auroville products?

Vivek spoke in his presentation about the use of toxins like herbicides, chemical fertilizer, drugs and hormones in agriculture. He showed that the use of many toxins exceeded the extreme values in india, and their prophylactic use in huge quantities is very common. As they cause highly health damages, for example to the nervous system, it would be reasonable to avoid such products.
He also mentioned the prices for Auroville farm products and presented examples of popular Auroville grown vegetables. They were less expensive than even conventional products and much cheaper than organics in Pondy, because they are sold without much traders.

All papers will be set on Auroville Intranet (Auronet) the upcoming week.

Riccardo while he was researching for his master thesis on food production in Auroville, he started to explore urban gardening in the administrative area of Town Hall and Citadine, Martine has fulfilled his long term wish to produce healthy organic food on permaculture desing at Windarra – Terra Soul community.
Both Riccardo and Martine are with us for quite some time, and they will still stay at least for another year, and their contribution to the community is priceless. Both also express their deep gratitude to Auroville, and the community for the moving experience.
