Synthesis of Yoga

The synthesis of Yoga is Sri Aurobindo’s principal work on yoga. In this book he examines the traditional systems of yoga while explaining his own method of Integral Yoga.

This reading is the first half of Chapter 27 Hathayoga on page 528.

” … All Yoga is in its nature an attempt and an arriving at unity with the Supreme … “

“Hathayaga is founded on an intimate connection between body and soul … body is the key … of bondage and release, … of self-mastery, death and immortality … the whole aim of the Hathayogin may be summarised as an attempt … to give the soul in the physical body … light, purity, freedom … a path though long, difficult … to the Supreme. Purification, concentration, liberation … three indispensable steps … in all its practice Hathayoga keeps these in view … the Hathayogin has to bring about an abnormal poise of status, action of the body, life energy … of superiority and self-mastery. …”

Chapter 27 to be continued and completed with the next reading.
