Chhau dancer Carolina Prada at Tantrosav 2018
Auroville: The evening here at Kalarigram started off with a musical note as Baul Singers from West Bengal played the Shivo Shakti songs here in Auroville at the Tantrosav 2018.
After performing for an hour, it was Carolina Prada who took over the stage performing Mayurbhanj Chhau.
Carolina Prada, a Colombian National who is currently residing in Delhi performed the less known Chhau . Living in India since 2008 and being trained intensely in Mayurbhanj Chhau by Guru Janmejoy Saibabu, Carolina intends to bring more exposure to this rich and beautiful art form and promote its growth. Carolina is the only female soloist of this generation to research, choreograph and perform at a professional level in Mayurbhanj Chhau.
Chhau which originates from Odisha, is a Semi-Indian classical dance with martial, tribal and folk origins. The event organised at Kalarigram showcased the feminine martial strength.
The event also witnessed other trained dancers from Delhi adding extra life to the show. Performing Chhau, young dancers trained under Santosh Nair, Sriram and Swati who were a part of dance production like The Game of Dice, performed Shiva Shakti which has three stages of Shivas and Shakthis relation, while Anjana performed a classical dance form.
