Synthesis of Yoga

The Synthesis of Yoga is the principal work of Sri Aurobindo illuminating his method of Integral Yoga. This reading consists of the first 5 pages of Chapter 23 The Supramental Instruments – Thought-Process, pages 841-845, found in Part 4 The Yoga of Self-Perfection.

The supermind is a superior instrument of the spirit; when we rise from mind to supermind the new power of consciousness uplifts, enlarges and transfigures the operation of our soul, mind and life, giving them an ever greater reality of their power and performance.

Necessary to the mental being is habitual thought; mechanically recurrent thought repeating in the physical, vital and emotional … the mentality of the average man is thereby limited. … the pragmatic idea mind … is interesting to the soul for a large range of action and experience … a third gradation of thinking is preoccupied with knowledge, the search for truth … is the highest reach of the intellect acting for itself, for its own purpose. The supermind can construct harmonies of its thought and expression being in reality … all that it thinks, is and does and lives belongs to the truth.
