New Selection Process

Following are minutes of 2nd General Meeting on a proposed New Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council with Participatory Working Group Proposal. Due to rain meeting was not well attended but still was exposed, that maybe a new process isn’t a right answer to solve dissatisfaction of the community. As it was mentioned, the best selection process would not help until we are ready to tackle the real, core issues of problems that are burdening community, and cause as well the passivity or non participation of members.

What is Participatory Working Group proposal? The Participatory Working Group proposal aims to widen community participation in our working groups, and introduce pertinent changes to the operational/team structure to foster dynamism and participation.

1. New Team Structure: Distributing the work load wisely – the 4 roles
If an Aurovilian wants to participate in a working group, s/he can choose between four roles or types of membership: Listener, Coordinator, Facilitator and Resource Person. Each working group will have its unique set of capabilities for the three types of active roles.

2. New Operational Structure aims to be: supportive, inclusive, dynamic and adaptable.
The new Working Group sets the goals and defines the roles. Communication between the working groups and the community is given an important role plus all members are connected via an online forum where internal communication is flowing and meetings are set up when required.

3. New Selection Process
The big change compared to previous working group selections is that there is no Selection Committee, but a 3-day selection process mediated by the RAS and the Study group. The candidates interested to join the WC and the AV Council work out the membership among themselves.
After a successful process, the newly formed working groups present themselves to the community through the RAS for final approval of their membership.
Candidates propose themselves to become members of a working group.
Encouraging other capable people to self-propose themselves will enhance participation.
