Jacky Mouvillat`s Concert

Jacky Mouvillat’s acoustic concert took place on Friday evening, April 8th 2011, at Pitanga’s Cultural Center. The “Stick Chapman” musician performed with the delightful French singer Anaka and the Tabla Master, Manosh Bardhan. For more than an hour, the trio graciously played, combining the innovative talent of Jacky with the harmony of the Indian Tabla rhythms, offering an elegant fusion-music moment. The occasion offered as well a chance to discover the “Stick Chapman” instrument wideness of sonorities. Captivated by Anaka’s charming voice and beauty, the audience was thrilled.

About fifty persons had joined to assist “Stick Chapman” player Jacky Mouvillat’s concert. Passionate by design and music, the French musician has chosen to dedicate his talent to an incredibly original American instrument named a “Stick Chapman”. With a similar design to a guitar neck, the Stick Chapman can range up to twelve strings and it recalls the same techniques as for playing on a keyboard. According to singer Anaka, there are less than 150 professional musicians playing the Stick Chapman in the world and each “stick” is an original creation. The charming trio seduced its public with some very soft and well balanced strolls, sang either in French or in English. One of them, “Le Rêve Bleu”, aimed at magnifying Auroville. The beautiful vibrations of the band spread out in a very friendly and attentive ambiance. In the end, Anaka’s lack of microphone turned the concert into a very intimate, sensitive and delicate moment. Jacky Mouvillat and Anaka met with Manosh Bardhan four years ago, while playing at the Alliance Française in Puducherry. They came this time to Auroville to register part of their coming album, to include Indian sonorities and form the trio again. Jacky Mouvillat’s coming record is expected to be released within the coming six months. Watch out for it!
