Highest Health Through Nutrician

On the 4th of December 2017 in the reading room, at Savitri Bhavan, Dr Nandita Shah shared some of her deep knowledge on the subject of diet and nutrition and the link to many of the diseases such as cancer and diabetes which have severely increased in the last 50 years. She then gives many simple and logical explanations and reasons why we should change the food we eat to be simply more in tune with our instinctual and natural diet, in the same way that all animals instinctively know their natural food, to help alleviate some of these deadly diseases.
Let us all revert back to an organic plant based diet, let Auroville be a place and example to the world for the health and spiritual benefits of this simple shift.

Dr Nandita Shah has just had her new book “Reversing Diabetes in 21 Days” launched in India and published by Penguin Books. It’s available on Amazon and will soon be available at the Visitors Centre book shop too.

Auroville Papers

Much more than paper, Auroville Papers is a unit that works as a team where there is no hierarchy, but only friendship and sharing of creativity and responsibility. They work in true Auroville spirit.
This is one of the units that started in the early times when conditions were difficult, but nevertheless in time they have expanded and improved their work.
With the recent change of economy, Auroville Papers had to adapt, and this pushed the team to be more innovative. Now not only do they produce aesthetic stationery, but they have also extended their repertoire to include all sorts of handicrafts, such as: earrings, door screens, a large variety of decorative items, and also some art work. One item that particularly caught my eye was a beautiful sculpture of a white unicorn (see our video on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqW332od3KA). I felt like I had just walked into an art gallery rather than a paper factory.
Because of the economic change Luisa remarked that we cannot be passive. We always need to be challenged in life if we want to keep ourselves well and active, and stay awaken. It is a work of challenges and creativity says Jean Jaques.
These words reminded me that “all life is Yoga”.

At the interview we have Jean Jaques, Herve’,and Luisa

Open Mic night at Solitude Farm

An Open Mic night at Solitude Farm Cafe. Local grown organic food, and home made icecreams.
The event was warmed up by Rolf and Shanks with an instrumental jazzy Bossa Nova version of Autumn Leaves.
Joshua came on stage presenting a few of his own compositions.
The charm of the evening was brought by three young girls: Luna, Lola and Chandini whom told each a joke.
Then Devinj and Barnika sang together blending English and Hindi Pop songs.
Maytria walked on stage on his own, without a guitar, but only with his Beatboxing.
Meenakchi read a couple of original poems (in English) about love and life.
Rohit played a selection of popular Hindi songs.
Then it was the turn of Sudakar, a Solitude Farm volunteer accompanied by Maytria on Beatbox. Sudakar sang a couple of Hindi Pop songs of the ’90, a popular Tamil song and more.
The most festive atmosphere was created by the Akash Jacob Superstar quartet accompanied by Rohit on guitar. The Indian audience joined the singing, while somebody in the audience even kept the rhythm on a metal basket.
Preetusha, an internship architect student, read a beautiful original poem on ‘thought’ (in English).
Shanks and Rolf came back on stage for a couple more pieces, this time Rolf’s own compositions: ‘Fun Zone’, ‘Don Quixote and Dulzemia’, ‘Fruitstall’, and ‘Kids From Above’.
Finally Joshua presented one last original song, and the night was closed with an original Hindi poem by un unknown student volunteer.

Good eating and well being

The idea of showing people how harvesting, cooking and celebrating your food can lead to a balanced community living led to the ‘6 Days of Hundred Percent Exploration of Nutritional Security’ Project at Solitude Farm last week. In this interview with Krishna, we discuss how it all began, food as much more than just a functional necessity and how important it is to honour mother earth and the soil.

Consciousness is a reality inherent in existence. It is there even when it is not active on the surface, but silent and immobile; it is there even when it is invisible on the surface, not reacting on outward things or sensible to them, but withdrawn and either active or inactive within; it is there even when it seems to us to be quite absent and the being to our view unconscious and inanimate.

Food for Thought, 15-12-15

On Tuesday, 15 of December, the Joy of Learning Team invite for presentations from Auroville farmers. After a general paper on Auroville farming, Jeff mentioned that what our farms seasonally can grow and what consumers like to eat doesn’t fit together. For example, they ask for tomatoes all over the year, so except during the season (January to March) Auroville has to import them. So, the town is quite far from self-sufficiency and many farms have still a lot capacity to grow.
In January 2016, there will be set up a web portal with local and seasonal recipes: http://eatingwiththeseasons.org

How expensive are Auroville products?

Vivek spoke in his presentation about the use of toxins like herbicides, chemical fertilizer, drugs and hormones in agriculture. He showed that the use of many toxins exceeded the extreme values in india, and their prophylactic use in huge quantities is very common. As they cause highly health damages, for example to the nervous system, it would be reasonable to avoid such products.
He also mentioned the prices for Auroville farm products and presented examples of popular Auroville grown vegetables. They were less expensive than even conventional products and much cheaper than organics in Pondy, because they are sold without much traders.

All papers will be set on Auroville Intranet (Auronet) the upcoming week.
