Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Auroville

Auroville: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Auroville (City of Dawn) International Township here after visiting the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Puducherry.

The Prime Minister after arriving in Puducherry from Chennai reached the Ashram where he was received by the officials. He paid floral tributes at the memorial of Sri Aurobindo and meditated for a while and later interacted with the children of the International School of Education run by the ashram.

The Prime Minister upon his arrival in the City of Dawn visited Savitri Bhavan and paid his respects at the Matrimandir. Later, he addressed the gathering at the Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas. 

The Chairman of the Auroville Foundation, Karan Singh welcomed the Prime Minister and other officials on behalf of the Auroville City.

On the occasion of Auroville’s 50th Anniversary, the Indian Department of Post has released a commemorative postage stamp which was released by the Prime Minister; He also released a book, ‘An Integral Education for Growth and Blossoming’ which is an initiative of the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education and launched a development project of Auroville which is a demonstration project of the sustainable urban habitats for the future ‘Human Scapes’. 

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said, “it is a moment of joy and appreciation of Sri Aurobindo’s continuous vision of India’s spiritual leadership which inspires us even today and adds that Auroville is a manifestation of that vision which has over the years emerged as a hub for social, cultural, educational, economic and spiritual innovation.”

The Prime Minister also appreciated the Auroville Community for reflecting the dream and vision and also spoke about the Charter and principles ’The Mother’ has for Auroville. He cherished the efforts the community has been making for the overall development of humanity and said that he follows the educational principle that Auroville has been offering. 

The Prime Minister in conclusion said, “May Auroville continue to come up with ideas to empower the ordinary citizens of this country where people from far and wide bring with them new ideas. May Auroville become the centre where these ideas are synthesised. May Auroville serve as a beacon to the world, may it be the guardian which calls for breaking down narrow walls of the mind. May it continue to invite everyone to celebrate the possibilities of humanity and oneness. May the spirit of Maha Sri Aurobindo and The Mother continue to guide Auroville to the eventual fulfilment of its dream.”

The governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit, Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry Kiran Bedi, Union Minister of State Finance and Shipping Pon. Radhakirhsnan, Minister for Law, Courts and Prisons Thiru C.Ve. Shanmugan, Minister for Electricity Tamil Nadu P. Thangamani, Chief Minister of Pondicherry N. Narayanaswamy and Chairman of the Auroville Foundation Karan Singh were present.
