The Divine Mother’s Birth and Childhood as Savitri

The Divine Mother comes as Savitri to take up her divine unfinished task. Her will to divinise the clay of our physical bodies and make dumb matter conscious of its God again puts on an earthly shape. At once she seemed to found a mightier race. A lovelier body formed than earth had known. The link of soul with form grew sure. A mind of light, a life of rhythmic force, a body instinct with hidden divinity prepared an image of the coming god.

King Lear

In the high spirited , intimate space of Adishakti Theatre, classical William Shakepseare’s play King Lear is set on stage.
Auroville Theatre group presents King Lear by amazing act of home based actors, along with visiting actors and actresses. Tragedy follows the original language but is set in current time, thus giving actors a freedom to express their characters by their visions. Hard, demanding roles, lengthy time wise has shown the dedication, maturity, and brilliance of the actors.

Classical Shakespeare’s tragedy depicts the gradual descent into madness of the title character, after he disposes of his kingdom giving bequests to two of his three daughters based on their flattery of him, bringing tragic consequences for all. Derived from the legend of Leir of Britain, a mythologicalpre-Roman Celtic king,

Due to the restoration work of Bharat Nivas Sri Aurobinod amphitheater, Auroville Theatre Group decided to stage the play at the Adishakti Theatre, Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre, Arts & Research on Edayanchavady Road. Adishakti Theatre with its funder Veenapani Chavla, who was deeply connected to Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville. It is a fascinating place, with utmost respect to vernacular architecture, with reverence towards well being of humans, and nature , yet dedicated and focused in fields of performing arts.

Earth Awaits the Birth Of The Flame Through The Changing Seasons

Amid the ambiguous stillness of the stars, Earth followed the endless journey of the sun. The symbol pageant of the changing seasons became a vigil, waiting for some mighty birth to come. An identity and an ecstasy filled meditation’s solitary heart. A dream loitered in the dumb mind of Space. An inmost thought kindled a hidden flame. An inner sight adored an unseen sun. Soon the Flame that is the Divine Mother will descend into a human body to change the fate of earth and man. The sunlight was a great god’s golden smile. All Nature was at beauty’s festival awaiting the birth of Savitri.

The Divine Mother Grants The Boon To King Aswapathy

The traveller of the worlds is at the end of his long journey in inner space. He has reached the Divine Mother, the eternal and omnipotent creatrix of the universe. Although she told him that mankind is still too weak to bear the infinite’s weight, he says he has seen wonderful new beings coming to change the suffering earth. He begs her to incarnate; to take birth in a human body and unlock the doors of fate so the future he has seen will come soon. The Divine Mother hears his cry and promises that she will take birth . She says, “One shall descend and break the iron law. Nature shall overleap her mortal step; fate shall be changed by an unchanging will.” His great work is done. King Aswapathy’s soul is compelled to to fill its human house in time, and he returns to be a man among men on earth

Adishakti`s Hindu Nov 2017 Fest Tour by Lail Arad and JF Robitaille

A guitar, two voices, a handful of songs, a warmly lit theater, good acoustics, and a welcoming audience are all it takes for an intimate successful evening show. As I enter the candle lit area, I feel as though I am coming home to a warm and wordly nest settled in a flourishing garden. Adishakti is a beautiful  place.

Lail Arad (London) and JF Robitaille (Montreal) brought their “We Got It Coming” Tour presented by the Hindu Nov 2017 Fest to Adishakti tonight. These artists and so much more theater is hidden between Pondicherry and Auroville. They set in with a Simon & Garfunkel song, “Hello Darkness, My Old Friend”, which sounds quite funny and right to the point at 7 pm. Short songs followed – as individuals and as a duo – such as “We Got It Coming”, some of the old masterpieces from Joni Mitchel, Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right”, Smokey Robinson’s “You Got A Hold On Me”, and Leonard Cohen’s “Bird On A Wire” – all performed with artistry, beauty and wit.

Thank you so much.
I can’t wait to see the weekly Adishakti Happenings next February 2018.
So long, Adishakti!
